The Kenyan elections are in a process of clarification. Whatever the outcome, the Tegla Loroupe Refugee Training Camp in Karen will benefit from the support of the Kenyan government. Tegla Loroupe served on the National Peace and Reconciliation Committee during the election, working to ensure the election was peaceful, and observing how the election was managed.

TLPF PEACE BRIEF There could have been no better way to wind up September activities and the International day of peace than joining the Marakwet and Pokot communities in celebrating their hard earned peace.

The Tegla Loroupe Peace Race is an annual 10-kilometreroad running event which takes place in November in Kapenguria, West Pokot County, Kenya. First held in 2003, the race was created by Kenyan runner Tegla Loroupe to bring together warriors of rival tribes to reduce conflict in the region.

Conflicts among different communities have been very prevalent in Kenya. These conflicts are caused by various reasons ranging from endemic poverty, economic inequality, and cultural reasons.  However, Sport is a universal language that can be understood by all, It’s intrinsic values such as teamwork, fairness, discipline, respect for the opponent and the rules of the game are understood all over the world thus can be harnessed in advancement of solidarity, social cohesion and peaceful coexistence.

The practice of sport is a recognized instrument for promoting peace, as it disregards both geographical borders and social classes. It also plays a significant role as a promoter of social integration and economic development in different geographical, cultural and political contexts.

These athletes were victims of unimaginable hardship, forced to leave their homes in South Sudan, and united under with other refugees from around the globe under a single flag so as to participate at the 2015 Rio Olympics .

The 15th Edition of the Tegla Loroupe Peace Race was held on the 11th of November 2018 in Kapenguria.  West Pokot Governor John Lonyagapuo and Inspector General Boinett joined Peace Ambassador Tegla Loroupe.
